Richard A. Getnick, M.D.

Richard A. Getnick, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a board certified ophthalmologist who graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After receiving his medical degree from Yale University, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at The Wills Eye Hospital and Research Institute in Philadelphia.

Dr. Getnick is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO), and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is an active member of the New England Ophthalmological Society (NEOS). NEOS, one of the oldest professional societies in the United States, has a membership of over 500 ophthalmologists. One of its primary missions is continuing education of ophthalmologists. He is also a member of numerous other professional societies.

Dr. Getnick is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery/Ophthalmology at the University of Connecticut Medical Center. He is an Attending Surgeon at St. Mary’s Hospital and Waterbury Hospital and is a past Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department at both of these hospitals.

Dr. Getnick is the proud father of three adult children. He is an avid outdoorsman who loves hiking, biking, and skiing.

Dr. Getnick, one of the founders of OptiCare Eye Health & Vision Centers, opened his practice in 1974. He maintains his practice at 87 Grandview Avenue in Waterbury . He is available to give lectures and may be reached at (203) 574-2020.
