Diabetic Eye Care

It is recommended that people with diabetes have a dilated retina examination at least once a year, even if they have “perfect vision” and no prior eye conditions. This is because retinopathy (or retinal disease) is a condition that can occur in people with diabetes.
Diabetic retinopathy can be a blinding condition if undetected and left untreated. But with early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, blindness can almost always be prevented. If retinopathy develops treatment is typically performed with a laser in one of our ambulatory surgery centers. However, depending on the severity, sometimes more invasive surgery in an operating room is required.
OptiCare has a fellowship-trained retinal specialist on staff as well as the entire range of equipment needed to diagnose and treat all levels of severity of diabetic retinopathy. If you have diabetes, contact our retinal specialists Angela Bosjolie, D.O. or Meredith Gershon, M.D., to make an appointment for your next retina examination.
